Design Ideas

These were some of my ideas for my final piece. I have decorated the background with water down brusho, pencil drawings, real tree bark, and pva and acrylic leaf veins and ink and pipette.

Final Piece

This is my final piece where i have layered all my final samples into collage. I like this arrangement as it has a natural flow also the way they are over lapping and crossing over.
I was inspired by pictures on the internet, my own photos and artists work.
I have used materials such as organza, baby wipe, acetate, brusho, vielene, hand made felt, angelina fibres etc.
I have used techinques such as iron on transfer, foam print, mono print, melted plastics, distressed newspaper etc.
Although my intial thought were to make a 3D piece i am happy with the outcome as it is simple yet it looks good.
I like the colours used as they are mostly neutral colours which harmonize but also there are bursts of purple and blues which contrast and add colour making it most intresting to the eye.
If i was to redo my final piece i would put some wire in certain places to make them stand out. Also i could of added pva leaf veins or real tree veins for detail.
I like the texture throughout the piece as in some areas the texture is rough and bumpy due to the organza and melted plastics and in others it's soft and smooth because of the acetate and felt.

In the style of the artist.

Here i have created a piece in the style of my artist Emily Felderman. i have use green and yellow thread and stitched thickly to create texture. i have also add iron on transfer behind the stitch for colour.
i like the way the green and yellow harmonize.
I will also experiment with different materials such as melted plastic and baby wipes to add my own touch to it, but still with the thick stitching.
This is one of Emily felderman's pieces which inspired me.
Here are some of my final and inital samples for my exam topic.
i have added improvements to certain samples eg: texture, colour, technique and materials.
My inital samples were all very similar so i started experimenting with different shaped leaves, layering the leaf shapes on top of each other and repeating the same leaves but with different materials.
I also created a leaf vein pattern which then i have layered different shaped leaves onto it.
I am going to create more samples using different techniques and materials which add texture and colour to my work. I will also in coperate my artists which i have found into my work.

Exam Topic

My exam title for AS Level  is Leaves, roots and branches.
I have to produce lots of detailed drawings, mixed media pieces and samples that are made from different materials and techniques.
I can't even draw any of those but i've found some inspiration from textile artists.

                                                                                    Heather Collins

The first artist i found uses different types of materials to create these pieces.
I like these as they look realistic and textured. She used felt, wool and various other materials and layers them on top of each other to make different feelings from bumpy and rough to soft and fluffy.
I want to create samples similar to her work but in my own style.
I will use materials such as melted plastics, felt, organza, and heavy stitching and layer them togther the way she has to re-create her work.

Emily Felderman

I like her work as it is simple and heavily stitched into and she uses different colours to make it look intresting. It also ties into my theme of leaves, roots and branches.
I like to do thick stitching as i think it adds texture and makes certain areas stand out and look bolder.
I will use her work as inspiration and make samples in the style of hers but i will use other materials in the background and stitch over them. I will also use differemt colours that harmonise or some that clash.
I will use her work as inspiration and incorperate into mine i will add different materials and techniques such as melted plastics, brusho, iron on transfer etc.

Final Piece

This is my final piece i have made for one of my units of work in textiles.

I have made individual samples from materials such as melted plastics, organza, homemade felt, polyester, newspaper etc.
Each sample has been inspired by an artist of my choice and is heavily stitched onto to give texture.

I have arranged each of my samples to create a dress, i have used many may layers of melted plastics to make the base of the dress and i think it looks like lacing and is delicate.
Also i have used wire to hold the structure and then glued my samples on.
